A number of external entities endorse us with awards and prizes that encourage us to keep improving

One such acknowledgement is the Petrochemicals Company of the Year award presented to us in 2016 by the prestigious international magazine Petroleum Economist. This recognizes the transformation that Repsol's chemicals business underwent to improve competitiveness, create differentiated products, and expand on geographic diversification. The magazine also acknowledged Repsol in 2015 with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme of the Year award, and in 2014 Antonio Brufau received the Chief Executive of the Year award. Petroleum Economist is one of the most prestigious and longest running publications in the energy sector. It is considered an authority in the energy sector, and is a point of reference among specialized media. The Petroleum Economist Awards recognize the top industry leaders, companies, and projects. Their panel of judges is made up of experts who represent all aspects of the international energy industry. 

We were also named Energy Company of the Year and Best Company in Downstream in 2015 by the renowned specialized agency Platts, a word leader in providing information on energy, petrochemicals, and metals. This agency has been issuing reports for over 100 years, helping to make the markets operate more transparently and efficiently. The Platts awards recognize the leadership, innovation, and excellence of the best directors, companies, and projects in the energy sector.

Treating our surroundings responsibly and caring for the environment and for people are essential values when carrying out our activities. We work to bring society the best environmentally and socially friendly solutions. Repsol's efforts to be more sustainable have not gone unnoticed. Our inclusion on sustainability indexes is a way of awarding our efforts in sustainability and our commitment to being more transparent, a trait which makes Repsol stand out from the rest:
  • Dow Jones Sustainability Index: Identifies companies with the best economic, social, and environmental performance. We have been ranked in the Dow Jones Sustainability World index as industry leaders since 2004 and in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe index since 2006, always well above industry average. We topped the ranking in 2011 and 2012 as the best company in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • FTSE4Good: We have formed part of this important international sustainability index since 2011.
  • Euronext Vigeo Europe 120: We are one of 120 European companies with the best performance in corporate responsibility.
  • Euronext Vigeo Eurozone 120: We are one of 120 companies in the Eurozone with the best performance in corporate responsibility.
  • Ethibel: Repsol's presence on the Ethibel sustainability indexes demonstrate the Company's determination, involvement, and dedication to continually improve its performance in terms of sustainability. We are ranked on the Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Global, and on the Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Europe.
  • Climate Disclosure Project: Recognises the companies that best manage their energy and carbon footprint. Since 2006, we have been one of the best companies in our industry and in 2016 we became leaders thanks to our climate change strategy.
This commitment to care for the environment is endorsed by important international indexes on sustainability and corporate responsibility, such as:
Repsol Campus, our corporate headquarters is a sustainable and 100% accessible space. Proof of this is the Leed Platinum certificate we have been awarded. It is the most popular green building certification worldwide and is granted by the US Green Building Council. It looks at many aspects including energy efficiency, the use of alternative energies, and efficient water consumption.

  • Best Spanish corporate website 2015-2016 according to Comprend's prestigious Webranking. It also named it as the second best corporate website in the Oil & Gas sector.

That is why we are part of the EU Industrial & Investment Scoreboard 2015, a report issued by the European Commission that categorizes the 2,500 biggest companies in the world according to their R&D investment. We appear on both the global and European ranking. 

As part of our firm commitment to caring for the environment, we are part of important global initiatives, such as: 


  • United National Global Compact: Its purpose is to promote social dialogue that allows to balance corporate interests with the values and demands of civil society. 
  • EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative): This is an international program that aims to promote transparency in financial transactions between private companies in the mining and oil sector, and the governments or institutions linked to them.
